Audio Genesis opened in 1985 as an independent, specialist retailer of hi-fi equipment. We are situated in a convenient position in Pyrmont Sydney, minutes away from The Star and the National Maritime Museum.

In a world where online shopping is the new norm, we are pleased to offer a highly personalised level of service. We believe that quality audio equipment shouldn’t be chosen solely due to the words of a reviewer, instead hear the music for yourself to make a fully informed decision.

Our Journey

Before starting a hi-fi store was on the agenda, Harry worked at a music store servicing guitars and amplifiers and saw the occasional piano accordion. On the side, Harry formed a band as lead guitarist and performing at events, live concerts, even at Ellis Park, SA.

Harry’s worked in sales for one of the largest hi-fi stores in South Africa and was gathered a wide understanding of hi-fi gear and brands, including the just-launched Linn Sondek LP12 with an SME 3009 tonearm.

Moving to Australia in 1984, Harry brought over his Naim and Linn hi-fi gear (a NAC 32.5, HiCap, NAP 250, LP12, and Linn Isobariks). He found a job in the former hi-fi cluster in York St., Sydney CBD and gathered his bearings about the Australian hi-fi market.

Harry decided to open his own home audio store. Audio Genesis’ journey started in August 1985 in Balmain. Based on the traditional way quality hi-fi equipment was sold, specialising in a small number of brands, and providing each customer with personalised service for their hi-fi journey.

Today, our store is in Pyrmont and continues to provide music lovers with the expertise and gear for their hi-fi journey.

We nearly opened in Woolloomooloo but it was too close to an existing hi-fi store in the Eastern suburbs at the time.
